The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core (BBC) in the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) provides expert biostatistical, bioinformatics, and data management guidance for research projects conducted by ACC members. The BBC advises and offers training on project design, conduct and analysis. Core personnel apply existing design and analysis methodologies, and also adapt or develop new methods to address novel design and analysis issues that arise in cancer studies.
A major BBC responsibility is to support the design and conduct of clinical trials. As such, the BBC plays a key role in the Protocol Review and Monitoring System, particularly through the Clinical Trials Scientific Review and Monitoring Committee. Since 2016, Dr. Qi Long, Professor of Biostatistics, has served as the BBC Director and leads an accomplished and highly collaborative team drawn primarily from the faculty of the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine.
The Center for Cancer Data Science was founded in partnership with the Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics and the Penn Medicine Abramson Cancer Center.
The Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI) supports interdisciplinary education, research, and infrastructure across various fields of biomedical informatics, including bioinformatics, clinical, public health, and translational informatics. With over 70 diverse research labs, it houses education programs, research centers, informatics core facilities, and the Idea Factory, its innovation hub.
The Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) at Penn Medicine leads in cancer research, patient care, and education. As an National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, ACC’s 400+ scientists and clinicians offer pioneering treatments like immunotherapy and proton therapy, along with extensive clinical trials and support programs aimed at transforming patient outcomes.
