Nandita Mitra, PhD, Professor of Biostatistics at the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine, has been awarded the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching. The reception honoring the recipients is set for April 24.

The Lindback Awards for Distinguished Teaching at the University of Pennsylvania were established in 1961 by the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation to recognize outstanding teaching. Eight awards are given annually—half in health-related fields and half in other disciplines—based on nominations and recommendations from faculty and students.

Since joining the faculty in 2005, Dr. Mitra has demonstrated a remarkable level of passion for teaching, with an extraordinary level of dedication and compassion for her students. She has had a profound impact on the Graduate Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, first as chair of admissions in Biostatistics and then serving as the Chair of GGEB for 6 years. She currently serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Causal Inference and Editor-in-Chief of Observational Studies. Dr. Mitra has also been recently awarded with the American Statistical Association Mentorship Award and is a Fellow of the ASA.
