Congratulations to Dr. Todd Miano, who has been named the 2025 recipient of the American College of Epidemiology’s Early Career Epidemiologist Award. This award recognizes an early career epidemiologist who has made major contributions to the field in methods development, etiologic research, or applied epidemiology.
Dr. Miano was recognized for his work in the field of acute care pharmacoepidemiology, which is fundamentally reshaping our understanding of drug safety in critically ill patients. Dr. Miano has led seminal studies that have elucidated the mechanisms underlying acute kidney injury during treatment with commonly used antibiotic combinations, and has identified optimal nephrotoxicity monitoring strategies. In addition, his methodological work has advanced the science of using real-world evidence to examine the health effects of drug-drug interactions.
