Assistant Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Informatics
Dr. Shefali Setia‑Verma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Division of Informatics within the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She also holds faculty appointments in the Genomics and Computational Biology and Cell and Molecular Biology graduate groups.
Dr. Setia‑Verma leads the Setia-Verma Lab, where her team harnesses large-scale biomedical data—including genomics, electronic health records, and other omics—to decode the molecular and genetic drivers of complex diseases. A central focus of the lab is on advancing understanding of conditions that affect women’s health, with the goal of filling critical knowledge gaps in disease biology.
Her lab applies machine learning, statistical genetics, and systems biology approaches to develop predictive models, identify biomarkers, and map disease trajectories. The broader aim is to accelerate early diagnosis, improve risk stratification, and inform the development of targeted therapies through the use of data-driven insights.
With a background that bridges computational science and biomedical research, Dr. Setia‑Verma’s work is positioned at the cutting edge of precision medicine. Outside the lab, she enjoys designing children’s clothing, exploring new cultures, and getting lost in a good book.
