Dr. Jinbo Chen, Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, has been named a 2024 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She joins a cohort of 471 researchers recognized this year across 24 scientific disciplines for their scientific achievements. The 2024 AAAS Fellows will be honored at a formal celebration in Washington, D.C., in June.
Election as an AAAS Fellow is among the highest honors in the scientific community. Dr. Chen is recognized for her distinguished contributions to breast cancer risk prediction models, gene-environment interactions, and the integration of prediction models into electronic health records (EHR), as well as for her impactful leadership in statistical research.
Dr. Chen’s research is at the forefront of biostatistics, with a focus on statistical methods for risk prediction, the innovative analysis of EHR data, and the development of efficient sampling designs under resource constraints. Her recent work has addressed critical challenges in risk modeling using EHR data, including the development of robust methods to account for EHR phenotyping inaccuracies, the assessment and improvement of fairness in statistical and machine learning algorithms, the monitoring of temporal performance in predictive models, the enhancement of risk modeling through data integration, and the inference of variable importance at both individual and group levels.
In addition to her role as Professor, Dr. Chen serves as Director of the Statistical Center for Translational Research in Medicine, Associate Director of the Penn Medicine Biobank, and Lead Biostatistician for the Penn Medicine Biobank.
