Zebrafish are among the most widely used model organisms in biomedical research funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, second only to mice. This study provides a comprehensive review and set of guidelines covering key resources available to zebrafish researchers, major biological considerations when using zebrafish in comparison to other vertebrates, and statistical perspectives to support experimental design and data analysis. Additionally, the article outlines essential reporting elements required in manuscripts to assess methodological rigor and enhance data reproducibility.

This work represents a collaborative effort among investigators from CHOP, the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic, and other institutions.
