About PennSIVE

The Penn Statistics in Imaging and Visualization Endeavor (PennSIVE) develops advanced biostatistical methods for image analysis. Since 2012, it has led efforts to address epidemiologic biases in multi-center and observational imaging studies. Collaborating with psychiatrists, neurologists, radiologists, and neuroscientists, PennSIVE pioneers tools essential for imaging epidemiology. Its immersive pre- and post-doctoral programs train a new generation of sought-after imaging statisticians and foster a network of bioengineers, clinician-scientists, and neuroscientists.

Improving Image Analysis

With biomedical imaging now central to medical research, rigorous analytics for clinical epidemiology are essential. Complex imaging data often challenges traditional statistical methods, and even advanced imaging techniques face criticism for inflated type I error rates, especially in neuroscience. Training the next generation of methodologists, applied statisticians, and epidemiologists in robust, interdisciplinary approaches is vital to ensure reproducible findings and to develop reliable imaging biomarkers. PennSIVE leads this charge, pioneering tools for imaging epidemiology and shaping future leaders in the field through immersive training programs.
