The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Informatics is proud to celebrate the achievements of three faculty members who will be recognized by the American Thoracic Society (ATS) for their outstanding contributions to their field. These prestigious, society-wide awards will be presented at the 2025 ATS International Conference in San Francisco (May 18-21, 2025).
Jason D. Christie, MD, MSCE, Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary and Critical Care) and Epidemiology, will receive the ATS Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments, which honors exceptional research contributions to the understanding, prevention, and treatment of respiratory diseases, critical illness, or sleep disorders.
Scott Halpern, MD, PhD, the John M. Eisenberg Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Medical Ethics and Health Policy, will receive the ATS J. Randall Curtis Humanism Award, which recognizes individuals whose work embodies compassion, mentorship, and humanism in medicine. This award holds special significance, as Dr. Halpern was both a colleague and close friend of Dr. Curtis.
Michael Harhay, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, Medicine (Pulmonary and Critical Care), and Statistics and Data Science, has been selected as the recipient of the Jo Rae Wright Award for Outstanding Science, which honors exceptional scientific advancements and mentorship of future generations.
