Research Assistant Professor of Informatics
Yonghyun Nam is a Research Assistant Professor of Informatics in the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. He joined the faculty in 2025 after completing postdoctoral and research associate training in biomedical informatics at the University of Pennsylvania. Trained in machine learning and data mining, Dr. Nam earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering in South Korea before transitioning to translational biomedical research.
His work focuses on integrating multi-omics data—including genomics, proteomics, and electronic health records—to improve prediction of complex disease risk and progression. He develops machine learning frameworks that combine polygenic risk scores, proteomic biomarkers, and network-based models of comorbidity to identify individuals at elevated risk for complex diseases.
Dr. Nam is particularly interested in scalable, interpretable approaches that link molecular data to clinical outcomes. His recent projects include graph-based methods for protein prioritization, longitudinal modeling using plasma proteomics, and semi-supervised learning techniques for patient subtyping in large biobank cohorts. He also contributes to methodological advances in disease network construction and risk score development using genomics and proteomics data.
