We are thrilled to announce that Enrique Schisterman, PhD, Perelman Professor and Chair for the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics, has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in the 2025 class.
Election to NAM is one of the highest honors in health and medicine, recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional professional achievement and commitment to service.
“It is an honor that I receive with enormous gratitude and with the conviction that science must serve equity in health,” said Dr. Schisterman. “From my beginnings in Argentina to my current work in the United States, I have always sought to generate knowledge that impacts people’s real lives, especially in the most vulnerable populations.”
His research has advanced understanding of fertility, pregnancy, and reproductive health, shaping how scientists study and improve maternal and child outcomes. At Penn, he builds on that foundation as Chair of the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Informatics, leading efforts to expand the department’s reach and strengthen connections between population research and public health practice. His election was also highlighted in Penn Medicine’s coverage, “CHOP researchers elected to National Academy of Medicine.”
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Schisterman on this well-deserved honor. His election to NAM celebrates not only his outstanding contributions, but also the ways his leadership and the work of our department continue to make a meaningful difference in public health.
We look forward to the ways in which his leadership and NAM membership will further enhance our department’s mission and visibility.
